Dust Removal

What do I mean by dust removal? DSLRs are very prone to getting dust on their cmos sensor. These can be quite hard to spot on an image unless you have a trained eye. A simple way to make it easier to see them is to equalize your image. This basically adjusts the image to show it in high contrast and shows the spots more easily. Here is the complete process:

1. Create a duplicate layer. ? say how to do this?
2. Using the menus go to Image > Adjustments > Equalize - Now you should be able to see any spots that are visible in the frame.
3. Select your first layer (background).
4. Select your Heal Tool.

5. Place your curser to the left or right of your spot and, holding the Alt button down, click on the image This is where the heal tool will take a sample from to repair the ‘spot’. Here do you need to say anything about the settings for the tool? Holding the left mouse button down, paint over the spot. You will see nothing happening as you are looking at the top layer but you are actually repairing the layer under it.
6. Select the background copy layer and delete it.
7. Repeat the process to check that all your spots are gone.

Now we can go on to the next step - level and colour adjustment.
