Cropping

Workflow Start Leveling Cropping Dust removal Colour & Levels Sharpening Actions

Now we are ready to crop the image. First we have to decide which crop ratio we require. Most aviation sites require a landscape image like this to be cropped at a ratio of 3:2 or 4:3. For this image I want the ratio to be set at 3:2. So select your crop tool first

Next select your dimensions at the top of the screen - 3 in width, 2 in height. Leave the Resolution box empty. Using your mouse, drag the crop box over the image until you have the subject correctly selected. You can use the arrow buttons on your keyboard to fine tune the position of the crop box and use the centre marker of the crop box to get the image well centred in the frame.

When you are ready to crop the image either right click inside the crop box and select crop or just double click inside the crop box. The effect is the same. Now we have an image which is level and cropped to the correct ratio. Why did I set the background colour to bright yellow? Well, if I my crop box is slightly outside of the image I will see a slice of yellow, indicating a crop out. If this does happen just hit Ctrl + Z to undo the crop and start the crop again.

Next dust spot removal.
